From the ORACLE cluster to the ORACLE LabEx

Research

The ORACLE cluster becomes LabEx ORACLE (Offshore Renewable Energy Research Center of Excellence).

LabEx ORACLE, bringing together the CDMO, CENS, GeM, IREENA, LEMNA, LETG, LHEEA, LS2N, and LTEN research laboratories at Centrale Nantes and Nantes University, will support multidisciplinary research initiatives addressing the major challenges posed by the need for offshore renewable energies:

  • offshore wind power
  • marine renewable energies
  • hybrid production systems

And thus contribute significantly to the supply of sustainable, secure, and competitive energy on a global scale.

Four multidisciplinary scientific challenges

  • Quantify and optimize the performance of offshore energy systems
  • Understand and reduce the uncertainties and risks inherent in energy production in the marine environment
  • Study and improve the sustainability of renewable energies on the high seas
  • Analyze and act on the levers for deploying renewable energies at sea

An overall objective

Build an integrated policy for high-level research and training in the field of offshore renewable energies for the Nantes site in order to increase its visibility, attractiveness, and excellence.

LabEx ORACLE is deliberately focused on high-level, resolutely applied, and multidisciplinary research. It aims to stimulate cross-fertilization between several disciplines, while promoting cutting-edge research activities in each discipline.
