Marine Renewable Energy Hackathon

Research

WEAMEC and IUML, in collaboration with Nantes University and Centrale Nantes, organized the first ever “C’est pas que du vent” (It’s not just hot air) MRE Hackathon. This unique event took place on October 16 and 17 at the Château du Tertre in Nantes.

The event

On October 16 and 17, around 50 students from Centrale Nantes and Nantes University gathered at the Château du Tertre to take up the challenge of the MRE field of the future. For two days, these students from fields related to maritime activities and renewable energies worked in multidisciplinary teams to come up with innovative solutions, despite demanding technical constraints.

Industry experts were on hand to support them: Skyborn Renewables, Akkodis, AVENTA, RWE, Natural Power, and OW Ocean Winds, offering their expertise and stimulating the teams’ creativity.

Highlights

  • Inspiring conference by Dominique FOLLUT, Director of WEAMEC, and Pierre WARLOP, Director of Natural Power.
  • Pitch training provided by Gaëlle MASLARD to prepare students to present their project in three minutes flat to a demanding but supportive jury.
  • The awards ceremony crowned the “MinZeCar” team for its ambitious and innovative concept of co-producing wind energy and algae! Congratulations also to the other teams: “Em-Rev,” “Longshore,” “Renouvent,” “Le concile des mers” and “Exo7,” each of which stood out for their creativity and hard work.

A big thank you to our partners and students for their involvement.

We are delighted that this first edition was such a resounding success. The adventure has only just begun!
