Seaturns tests a chain of five floats for the first time in the test tanks at Centrale Nantes

Innovation

Centrale Nantes recently welcomed Seaturns to its test tanks for a series of crucial tests for the marine renewable energy sector.

The Seaturns team was able to benefit from the expertise and know-how of Centrale Nantes’ test tanks to test for the first time a chain of five wave energy systems connected on a 1/15 scale under various wave conditions. The aim of these tests is to validate this configuration and its anchors with a view to a future offshore farm.

These tests included trajectory measurements to better understand the movements of the floats and correlate them with performance measurements. These measurements over a large area covering the entire experimental setup were made possible by new cameras, funded by Nantes Métropole as part of the WEAMEC Equipment Call for Projects.

What is Seaturns?

To capture wave energy and convert it into electricity, Seaturns has developed a groundbreaking wave energy solution based on an innovative system. This high-performance, innovative technology uses an internal water pendulum that oscillates inside a cylindrical float. It is a simple, compact, robust, and small-scale solution. This concept has been patented in France and internationally (South Africa, Australia, China, Europe, and the USA).
